Despite the State Governor's threat of dies-non, the Manipur Electricity Employees Union (MEEU) has decided to shut down power supply throughout the State from December 3 as part of the cease work strike of the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO.
In a statement, MEEU gave December 2 as the deadline for giving the demands of the JAC.
The union earlier planned to join the cease work stir from November 16 but it was deferred in view of the ongoing Punjab National Games.
All Manipur Students' Union has appealed to All Manipur Electricity Employees' Union to reconsider the proposed 'electricity strike' from December 3 in view of the ongoing school examinations.
It assured to impose a state wide general strike in support of the employees' agitation in the near future.
Around 100 JAC members staged relay hunger strike near Uripok Cheirap Court today.
In a statement, JAC said employees of Fisheries Department, State Academy of Training, Irrigation and Flood Control will hold a fast tomorrow.
RD and PR, Planning, Adult Education will stage fast on December 1, JAC members on December 2 and Medical, Food and Civil Supplies and TD Department on December 3.Reacting to the Government stand of resorting to no work no pay, the JAC said it will not retract until the demands are met.
The Manipur Secretariat Services Association charged the Government of reneging on its promises.
It said the Government tried to hoodwink the employees by making false promises of paying allowances from next year.
Now it is resorting to dies-non, it alleged.
Meanwhile, the Co-ordinating Committee of AMSTA and AMGOCTA has appealed to all the teachers to attend the meeting at Lilashingkhongnangkhong HS at 10.30 am tomorrow.
The committee appealed to students and the general public not to view their agitation in the wrong way saying they were compelled to resort to the strike as the Government has been taking up steps which have adversely affected the their moral.
Stating that it joined the JAC strike only on November 6 taking imp consideration the careers of the students, it urged the Federation of Elementary to College Teachers Association (FECTA) to make a joint struggle.
FECTA in a release said that the door for negotiations is opened till now.
It has also called a meeting at 1 am of December 1 at Manipur College.
All Manipur Government College Teachers Association (AMGOCTA) said it fails to understand the Government's contention that pay revision was the reason for the economic decay saying State Governments are always the gainer as the Centre bears 80 percent of the amount.
In a statement, it said Government's no pay, no work is logical so is no pay, no work too.
